One Thief Has a Sweet Tooth and Another Brings Tools to Artfully Remove Car Part

Police also report several instances of bicycle theft.

Theft

Someone broke into a box truck parked at Canteen Vending, 216 W. Diversey, between June 7 and 8 and stole two boxes of 48-count peanut M&M packages and three boxes of 48-count Snicker candy bars. Total loss is estimated at $240. 

Someone stole a bike that was propped against the north side of the gazebo at the Prairie Path and Spring Road between 5:40 and 6:10 a.m. June 8. The bike was not locked.

Someone stole a red mens’ 12-speed Schwinn mountain bike worth $100 from the northwest corner of Jewel, 153 E. Schiller, between 10:40 and 11 a.m. June 8.

Someone stole a red Mongoose bicycle worth $150 that was parked in the bike rack at Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave., at noon June 8. A surveillance camera showed a possible suspect, a teen-age boy about 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-9 inches tall wearing a light colored short-sleeved shirt, dark shorts and new gym shoes.

Someone stole the catalytic converter off of a 1997 Toyota 4-Runner that was parked on a lot at 211 W. First St. between 12:50 and 3 p.m. June 9. The officer looked under the car and noticed a clean cut in the tailpipe on either side of where the converter would be. Loss is estimated at $400.

Unlawful Use of  a Credit Card

A woman on the 200 block of East Butterfield reported that she discovered three fraudulent transactions on her Mastercard on June 8. She had last used it that same day at Jewel Osco, 944 S. York Road, but was unable to locate the card.
