Nine Catalytic Converters—and a Whole Oldsmobile—Stolen

Retail Theft Arrests

Deborah R. Jones, 51, 747 Fulton, Addison, was arrested and charged with retail theft after police say she removed seven cleaning items totaling about $140 from Dominick's, 215 S. Route 83, at 3:04 p.m. Aug. 17. She allegedly left the store without paying and was brought back inside by security. She was released on I-bond.

Naderine Maddox, 35, 4439 W. Washington, Chicago, and Charlotte Hurde, 30, 2417 W. Adams Apt. C, Chicago, were arrested and charged with retail theft after police said they took jewelry, clothing and shoes from Kohl's, Route 83 and St. Charles Road, at 3:57 p.m. Aug. 23. They were released on I-bond.

Sandra Argento, 59, 1510 N. 34th Ave., Melrose Park, was arrested and charged with retail theft after she allegedly removed a set of dishes from Kohl's, Route 83 and St. Charles, then took it to the service counter for a refund at 6:50 p.m. Aug. 23. She was released on I-bond.

Theft

Nine catalytic converters were removed from trucks parked in the lot at Comcast, 155 Industrial Drive, between 6:30 p.m. Aug. 14 and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 15. Each is worth about $350.

The lock on the cargo door of a 2006 Chevrolet Express van was punched while the van was parked on the 600 block of Comstock between 11:30 p.m. Aug. 16 and 6:30 a.m. Aug. 17. Nothing was reported missing, but damage to the lock is estimated at $200.

A 17-inch maroon Diamondback Edgewood LX Hybrid bicycle was taken from the sidewalk in front of Doc Ryan's, 490 Spring Road, between 11:30 p.m. Aug. 4 and 12:01 a.m. Aug. 5. The theft report was filed Aug. 17.

Someone smashed the window on a white Kia Sorento parked in the service lot at Ed Napleton Kia, 727 W. Grand Ave., between 2 p.m. Aug. 18 and 10 a.m. Aug. 20. About $5 to $10 in change was missing; damage to the window is estimated at $180.

The service director at Elmhurst Toyota, 440 W. Lake St., said $1,000 in petty cash was taken from a locked drawer of a file cabinet in his office on Aug. 17. A list of people who knew about the cash was given to police, and fingerprints were taken.

A dark blue 1995 Olds Cutlass Cierra was taken from the parking lot at CVS Pharmacy, 110 E. North Ave., sometime between 11:40 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. Aug. 23.

Identity Theft

A business on the 400 block of North York Road received phone calls from someone claiming they were stuck in Spain and needed money at 2:15 p.m. Aug. 17. The caller used the name of someone on the business email contact list.

Someone tried to open a Discover account using the personal information of a resident of the 500 block of Comstock on July 31. The victim also received a letter from Chase Bank stating it also received a credit card application in his name. Capital One bank also placed the victim's account on hold for suspicious activity, and Ally Bank sent him a letter stating they needed to contact him regarding an account. The victim was given a pamphlet on identity theft and will follow up.

Credit Card Fraud

A resident of the 900 block of Hillside Avenue told police Discover Bank alerted her to several attempted withdrawals that had been declined. On Aug. 17, however, a fraudulent $1,000 cash advance was successful.

Someone made several unauthorized wire transfers totaling about $2,200 on the debit card of a resident of the 400 block of North Highview on Aug. 17.

Warrant Arrests

Kim L. Foster, 21, 19054 Jodi Terrace, Homewood, was arrested on a warrant out of DuPage County for battery after police were asked to remove her from the Metra train at 12:13 a.m. Aug. 18 because the train conductor said she did not have any money to pay for a train ticket. She was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Mario Bravo, 40, 264 N. Addison Ave., Elmhurst, was arrested on a warrant out of DuPage County for contempt of court after police pulled over his Ford pickup truck for speeding at York and Interstate 290 at 7:59 a.m. Aug. 18. He was released after posting bond.

Thomas Clark, 28, 470 W. North Ave., Elmhurst, was arrested on three warrants at his home at 10:31 a.m. Aug. 19: a warrant out of Westmont for failure to appear for a domestic case; and two out of Elmhurst, for DUI and failure to appear for a domestic. He was unable to post the $2,225 bond and was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Harassment

The day-shift manager at McDonald's, 190 E. Butterfield, told police that an unknown male repeatedly called the restaurant "asking for white grapes" between 6 p.m. Aug. 14 and 10 a.m. Aug. 15. The caller called while the police officer was there, but hung up when the officer identified himself.
