New Details Emerge About Associate Pastor's Alleged Sexual Contact with Teenage Girl

Darin Evans faces 47 years in prison, his actions called "despicable" by State's Attorney.

Bond has been set at $300,000 for Darin Evans, 41, former associate pastor at West Suburban Community Church in Elmhurst. Evans appeared before Judge Elizabeth Sexton in DuPage Bond Court Tuesday, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

From 2004 to 2011, Evans allegedly sexually assaulted his victim on multiple occasions at multiple locations, including his vehicle, public places and on a church-sponsored youth retreat, according the State's Attorney's Office. ABC News is reporting those locations included cemeteries and restrooms.

"The allegations against Mr. Evans are just despicable,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a prepared statement. “As the youth minister at his victim’s church, he allegedly took advantage of his position and the trust placed in him by his young victim and her family to satisfy his sick sexual desires."

ABC News also is reporting that the victim was 16 when the abuse began, and that Evans told her "he would kill himself if their relationship became public."

The abuse became public last month, when the victim told West Suburban Church Pastor Jim Lennon, who then notified Elmhurst police. On Feb. 24, Lennon read a letter of confession from Evans to his congration.

Evans turned himself in to Elmhurst police Monday. He moved to Dover, Ohio, with his wife and three teen-aged children late last year.

If convicted, he faces 47 years in prison, ABC reported.

Sounding a bit "uppity"..... WINK WINK
Ercie Berwick March 29, 2013 at 07:03 PM
"Uppity" about what? I made a perfectly logical comment. Oh, I keep forgetting. You're not into logic. ;)
Cronan March 29, 2013 at 07:27 PM
or maybe just coo-coo like Steve King ;)
Ercie Berwick April 01, 2013 at 03:13 AM
My comment stands, Anon. Sorry you don't like it. I never take anonymous letters seriously. Perhaps you know the gentleman in question, perhaps you don't. It's easy to write a letter and hide behind it with an anonymous signature.
Ercie Berwick April 01, 2013 at 03:40 AM
Thank you for giving me permission not to believe a word you say. You're missing the entire point. An anonymous letter deserves to be placed in the circular file, more commonly referred to as "the waste basket." In addition, I don't comprehend how re-reading the article would lend anything of substance to what you posted. Perhaps you would care to elucidate as to what you meant when you said "Re-read this article and you'll see that everything I said was true." Huh???
Ercie Berwick April 01, 2013 at 04:21 AM
I find your comment above way out of line, especially your comment about my age and the rape part. You should be ashamed of yourself, and your parents should be ashamed of you as well. In addition, it is abundantly clear that you have no respect for the elderly. Now listen, and listen well! My conversation with you has come to an end. I would strongly advise you to cease and desist from attempting to contact me any further, either on this forum or by any other means. You could get into serious trouble if you don't watch yourself because if I want to take the time, I can contact the authorities and have you tracked down and put an end to your dismal performance on this forum. I have had the last word so far as I'm concerned. Now pick up your pacifier and climb back into your playpen!
Anon April 01, 2013 at 04:30 AM
I have much respect for the elderly just not ones who enjoy targeting drama over the internet because they're bored. I deleted my comment because I relaize it was out of hand but I am trying to make a point which it looks like I have made pretty clear. I am done writing on here, but consider making your internet posts more private. It's a scary world out there
Cronan April 01, 2013 at 03:27 PM
You know what Anon, it was not out of hand at all! Ercie is out of hand just like so many other people who believe that they are somehow ENTITLED to behave like children because they have a few years on them. Ercie needs to stop posting her personal info all over the internet! Ercie, the information you put out there is readily available to ANY nutjob who wants it....but do you thank us for pointing this out to you? Of course not! Anon, I am very sorry to hear about what you must be going through...
Cronan April 01, 2013 at 05:34 PM
In all seriousness Ercie, you need to put some privacy control on your facebook if you wish to use your real name all over the internet. The police would find this laughable as nothing criminal has happened here. Times have changed.
Anon April 01, 2013 at 05:36 PM
Exactly, I didn't even post anything that she had not already posted on the internet. Also, I'm sorry if it offends her that I called her old, but if you have grandchildren... you are most likely old so accept it. Honestly I deleted my comments because I didn't want to make a big deal or "get into trouble" and then I thought about it and I have a freedom of speech and she really just wanted to argue for fun so she picked a fight about something that doesn't even matter... So I gave her a taste of her own medicine. I know we don't want to believe that what Darin did is true, but it happened. He even admitted to it. I am sympathetic for his children who are my friends, but I will not stand for this behavior. Even if he doesn't go to jail, the worst punishment anyone could ever have is living with the reality of the mistake you have made. People will always think differently of him from now on and that is something he must deal with.
Cronan April 01, 2013 at 05:46 PM
Well said Anon. You sound as if you are a wonderful young adult, don't ever stop using your voice.
Ercie Berwick April 01, 2013 at 08:22 PM
What you said about rape was despicable, Anon, and you must now realize it. Not only was it despicable, but indicated clearly that you haven't the foggiest notion what rape is all about. It isn't about "sex," young lady. It's all about POWER! So you see, you're not as smart as you obviously like to think you are. If you don't know by the age of 18 that rape is all about power, then I would say that it's about time somebody told you. How fortunate you are that you have found a senior citizen who just now explained it to you. Don't go getting carried away with the thought that you're an 18-year-old-know-it-all because you have a great deal to learn before you reach my age. The book of Proverbs is full of verses concerning "wisdom." Read the book of Proverbs since it doesn't look as if you've learned anything very substantial elsewhere. And remember this. Some day you will get to be as old as I am, if you're lucky, and then you won't be so apt to shoot your mouth off because by then, I would hope, you would have learned to live according to the 13th chapter of 1st Corinthians, commonly referred to as "The Love Chapter." Read it and try to memorize it. You need it!
Anon April 01, 2013 at 08:37 PM
Did I ever say I was an 18 year old know-it-all? Maybe you should reflect on your statements before you talk. It seems as if you think you're the one that knows everything, considering you are the first one to comment negatively towards every single comment you do not agree with. Did I say that I do not know what rape is? Rape is any act of sexual intercourse that is forced upon a person. I know damn well what it is. Also, I hope that when I get old I will have better things to do with my time such as seeing my grandchildren, reading a good novel, or baking something instead of harassing and threatening 18 year olds on the internet. You are pathetic for continuing this conversation further.
Kelly F April 01, 2013 at 09:06 PM
Uh oh. Ercie is on the soap box again. This time attacking an 18 year old. Ercie, please stop quoting the Bible to suffice ONLY your twisted perception of the truth. While, I myself am a big fan of 1st Corinthians...I would never ever ever breath that verse in any discussion regarding what this pervert did. You know what they say about Child molesters, oh powerful Ercie, they do what they do because they think it is an expression of LOVE.....hmmmmmm makes me wonder about your views a little bit more. There are all different reasons someone rapes someone. Power is not the ultimate reason, but a ignorant person such as yourself would think this. You do nothing on here but insult others in one breath then quote the bible in the next. That I find a bit twisted Ercie. Remember the meek will inherit the Earth....at the rate you are going....your real estate is shrinking each time you open your mouth. You are sure throwing a lot of stones. Better watch your glass house!
Kelly F April 01, 2013 at 09:10 PM
Anon, my thoughts are with you as you struggle with all of this, being on a personal level with the family involved. Stay strong! Please don't ever let people like Ercie effect you.
Anon April 01, 2013 at 09:23 PM
Thank you E-town mom of 4 and Cronan for the support. Honestly Ercie, how about you put yourself to use and stop arguing all together. It seems as if I'm not the only one who finds your ignorance atrocious.
Ercie Berwick April 02, 2013 at 12:25 AM
No, Anon, you did not know what rape was all about until I brought it to your attention. I can buttress what I just said by calling your attention to your despicable comment, which you have now deleted, inferring that who would want to rape an eldery woman. I wasn't born yesterday, and my level of reading comprehension is very high. This is my final comment to you or to anybody else on this subject. In addition, I didn't say that you SAID you were a know-it-all. I merely suggested that you not carried away with that thought. Your posts make you SEEM like an 18-year-old know-it-all. I am through with you because I prefer to converse with adults. Bye.
Ercie Berwick April 02, 2013 at 12:29 AM
E-town mom of 4: Pay attention! I never once in my wildest dreams even thought of applying 1st Corinthians, chapter 13, to what this man did. Not once! I think you would do well to cease and desist from posting your views because you get very confused and then you not only shoot from the hip, you misspell words and your sentence construction suffers. Why don't you and Anon continue this conversation, just between the two of you? I have other fish to fry and it doesn't include posting back and forth with two people with such an abysmally low level of reading comprehension. Bye.
Kelly F April 02, 2013 at 12:35 AM
Really Ercie....you are the one who needs to pay attention. You have repeatedly contradicted yourself. Where exactly did I say you "applied" it. No where again that is you shooting from your pig headed opinionated hip. Excuse me professor Ercie...I didn't realize I was being graded on my comments.....I'll be sure to keep the proper materials next to me whilst I post to "APPEAR" intelligent like you....wink wink. I can use big words too Ercie to make myself feel better about my ignorance like you do. You make me laugh. You are a joke.
Kelly F April 02, 2013 at 12:37 AM
The truth hurts Ercie. You may appear to have an education, but truth is you are not so smart. Keep trying though. I could care less what you think of me and I am pretty sure that is what the majority thinks as well. Go preach elsewhere.
Kelly F April 02, 2013 at 12:43 AM
Ercie! I can quote the bible too....Matthew 18 1-6 " Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drown in the depths of the sea."
Ercie Berwick May 18, 2013 at 10:19 PM
"Little ones?" Since when is a woman of 18 and beyond still "a little one?"
Kelly F May 19, 2013 at 12:23 AM
Ok There's Ercie twisting the facts. Read the article. She was underage when this started..,,right ? Enough said ! What was his age again? Umm. Yeah. I stand by "little one".
Ercie Berwick May 19, 2013 at 01:06 AM
I KNOW she was underage when this started. Never said she wasn't. I also said that this relationship continued for several years AFTER this underage girl became a WOMAN! Now do you comprehend? Shall I draw you a picture? I am not "twisting facts." YOU have a low level of comprehension!
Kelly F May 19, 2013 at 01:16 AM
Yeah ok sure!!!! Whatever you say!!!!!! I'm dumb and you're the smartest person in the world!!!'
Ercie Berwick May 19, 2013 at 04:19 AM
I never excelled in math, but my math is good enough so that I can count beyond 16.
Kelly F May 20, 2013 at 03:44 PM
Really and the law of this land still considers him a child molester and rapist (statutory). So count as high as you want when they sentence him.
Ercie Berwick May 20, 2013 at 06:39 PM
I never said he wasn't. Never said one word that could possibly be misconstrued. I agree with you 100%. However, the math still applies. All I am saying is that this child of 16 eventually became 18 (of legal age) and then this relationship continued on and on and on for several years more. At what point, E-town mom of 4, do you suppose the female in question could have been thought of as an adult who finally knew what she was doing? Valid question. Are you able to respond?
Cronan May 20, 2013 at 07:46 PM
you know, my mom always said there are no stupid questions....I used to believe that. Until now....
Ercie Berwick May 20, 2013 at 07:58 PM
I don't much care what you think, Cronan. You are unable to analyze, and therein lies your problem. Try to work on it, okay?
