Mystery Person Disappears; Police Find Only Footprints and a Poultry Carcass

Police filed this as "suspicious circumstances." That's one way to put it.

During routine patrol Sunday evening, Jan. 12, an Elmhurst officer saw a person climbing the small hill at the southwest corner of Grand Avenue and Lake Street at  about 5:20 p.m.

The officer said he thought this was suspicious because he didn't see a vehicle nearby, and it is an odd place to be on foot. By the time the officer got to the hill to check things out, the person was gone. But there were fresh footprints in the snow, indicating someone had just been there a minute before, according to police.

At the top of the hill was an "unidentifiable kind of poultry carcass" wrapped in ribbon on butcher's paper, police said.
