Crime & Safety

More Police Will Patrol The Streets Between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m.

Wednesday before Thanksgiving is a popular day for celebrating; college students are back in town, and it's typically the beginning of a four-day weekend.

Thanks to a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation, Elmhurst police will again be stepping up enforcement of DUI and seat belt laws.

The campaign started Monday, Nov. 18, and will continue through Sunday, Dec. 1. The grant allows extra officers to be out on patrol looking for impaired drivers and seat belt violations. The extra officers will primarily be on the roads from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., which are the most dangerous times on Illinois roads.

Extra emphasis will be placed on Thanksgiving weekend, specifically the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving.

Motorists are encouraged to drive safety and buckle up. If planning to drink over the holidays, drivers should make alternate driving arrangements. Citizens also are encouraged to call police if they see a vehicle that appears to be driven by an intoxicated driver.
