More Police Are on the Streets Through the Labor Day Holiday

They are looking for impaired drivers and seat belt violators.

Elmhurst police have beefed up street patrols through Sept. 4, thanks to a year-long grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The current campaign began Aug. 19 and will continue through the Labor Day holiday. Extra patrol officers will be out between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., the most dangerous times on Illinois roads, looking for impaired drivers and seat belt violations.

The goal of the campaign and the IDOT grant is to reduce fatal and serious-injury crashes.
