Elmhurst Resident Turns Over Air Rifle To Police After Witness Calls in Complaint

Multiple battery arrests also reported this month, and cookie not a welcome surprise.

Disorderly Conduct Police received a call that an older man was sitting in a chair holding a rifle on the 600 block of South Poplar at 5:14 p.m. May 24. when they arrived, the man was walking in his yard. He showed the officers his Crossman 760 pump master .177 caliber air rifle. They told him it was against city ordinance to fire an air rifle, and he willingly gave it to police for destruction.
Battery ArrestsVaughn C. Leath, 71, 2029 Highland Ave., Wilmette, was arrested and charged with battery after he reportedly slapped a woman's right forearm after she corrected his job performance at 10 a.m. May 1 on the 900 block of Weigel. He was released on bond and given a no-trespass order.

Police said a white man in his 60s to 70s, wearing a green sweater, tan pants and glasses, struck a woman on her left shoulder with a book while she spoke on the phone at Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave., at 2:25 p.m. May 6. The victim said she doesn't know what could have provoked the suspect. She said she will sign a complaint if he is identified.

Mark Perry, 28, 406 N. Abby Road, Urbana, was arrested and charged with battery and resisting arrest after an incident at Fitz's, 172 N. Addison, at 1:50 a.m. May 18. He was released on bond.

Domestic Battery
Allen Schroeder, 53, 757 S. York Road, Elmhurst, was arrested for domestic battery at his home at 3:26 p.m. April 30. He was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Zelijko Yukovic, 37, 801 Spring Road, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with domestic battery at his home at 7:19 p.m. May 15. He was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Brandon Nolan, 29, 11041 S. Avenue J, Chicago, was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 12:42 p.m. May 16. He was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Leaving Scene of an Accident
Gaffar Shareef, 66, 18W262 Buckingham Lane, Villa Park, was arrested at his work and charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving personal injury at 12:25 p.m. May 2 after police say he admitted to being involved in a traffic accident and hitting a pedestrian at Route 83 and North Avenue. He was taken to DuPage County Jail and his silver Toyota Camry towed for evidence processing.

Mohammed Siddiqui, 68, 838 Geneva Court, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and leaving the scene of an accident after his red Honda Civic was involved in a crash with a 49-year-old Elmhurst resident at York and Crestview at 2:08 p.m. May 20.

Suspicious Circumstances
Someone left a cookie in the crevice of the drivers side mirror of a vehicle that was parked on the 100 block of Mayo Court. The complainant said this was not the first time something like this had happened. The report was made at 2:18 p.m. May 25.
