Not Just a Flesh Wound

Elmhurst Memorial Hospital officials called Elmhurst police last week after they discovered a hospital patient had a bullet in his leg. Police reported at 6:50 p.m. April 30 that the medical personnel learned the bullet was from a gang-related shooting that occurred two years ago.

The patient said he was questioned by the Cicero Police Department on the night of the shooting. The man told police at the time that he did not want to press charges, police said.

At the time of the shooting, the bullet was too close to an artery for it to be safely removed surgically. But recently, the man said it has become very painful, swollen and infected. He was referred to a surgeon at Elmhurst Memorial to have the bullet removed, according to the report.

Quick Change

Someone pulled a fast one on an employee at Cafe Amano, 105 S. York Road. At about 7:15 p.m. April 30, a man in his early 30s, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a thin build, ordered a Red Bull at the counter. He paid for it with a $100. The employee left the $100 near the register and gave the man $97 in change. The man then purchased another Red Bull and paid $3 for the drink. He then asked for a bag for the two drinks. The employee reached for a bag, and when he looked up, the man had taken the $100 bill from the counter and was running northbound on York Road. He is described as a light-skinned black man with short dreadlocks, very bad teeth, wearing a white baseball hat, white T-shirt and baggie black pants.
