Man Tries to Lure Girl by Offering Her a Cell Phone Near Immanuel Lutheran, Police Say

The incident wasn't reported until the next day.

A student at Immanuel Lutheran School, 148 E. Third St., told authorities she was approached by a man who tried to get her into his vehicle at 3:10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17.

The student said she was walking on Illinois Street near the playground when the man attempted to lure her by offering to give her a cell phone. The girl ignored the man and returned to school. She did not report the incident at the time; the police report wasn't filed until about 10:30 a.m. Dec. 18.

She could not provide a description of the vehicle, police said, but she described the man as Caucasian with dark skin, about 6 feet tall with a medium build. She said he was in his early 30s and wearing a puffy black coat.
