Uninvited guests apparently broke the doors and left beer cans around an Elmhurst house a man was planning to move into Tuesday.

The man, identified only as "Jim," reportedly signed a lease for the North Geneva Avenue house Tuesday, but when he got there "noticed the window on the front door to be broken and the side exterior door and frame to be damaged," police said.

"The victim also observed empty beer cans inside the residence," police said.

Soooo... it's a story about trespassing and squatting, and there's a picture of a well-organized beer can collection.

The photo reminds me back to days of youth when every kid in the neighborhood had a beer can collection. This one sure surpasses mine due to all the German beers in cans which were hard to get back then. My favorites were all the different variations of Schmidt outdoor sportsman cans and Iron City with sports. These were easy to get, but cool to look at.

How does the owner / landlord not check the property right before a tenant moves in? If the owner doesn't care about this property, do you really think the tenant is going to? After the housing bubble, renters in homes are a reality in almost every market. I just hope Elmhurst's building department becomes more strict on code violations for all owners, especially during these economic times.
