Man Shot During Botched Robbery at Oakbrook Center Pleads Not Guilty

Two other suspects are still at large.

The Detroit man charged with armed robbery and burglary after he allegedly smashed a display case at an Oakbrook Center jewelry store pleaded not guilty in DuPage County court Monday, according to the Daily Herald.

Levert Jones, 24, went in front of Judge Blanch Hill Fawell for his arraignment Monday. The Herald reports that he faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison if convicted.

The DuPage County State's Attorney's Office says that on June 23 at around 3:45 p.m. Jones and two accomplices entered the mall's C. D. Peacock store, where Jones pulled out a sledgehammer and began smashing a glass jewelry case.

According to reports, a store security guard attempted to apprehend Jones, but when the defendant tried to resist arrest, the guard shot him in the abdomen.
