Man Seen Trying to Get Into Cars, and Wallets, Phones, Car Parts and More Stolen

Here's a round-up of what's been taken since the beginning of November, according to Elmhurst police reports.

Suspicious Person

A white man about 20 years old and 6 feet tall, wearing a dark skull cap and a plaid full-length jacket, was seen pulling on car door handles on the 700 block of South Hillside at 3:11 a.m. Nov. 12. He was not located.

Theft

A black and gray jacket was taken from the area of Prospect and McKinley between 2 and 3:30 p.m. Nov. 2. The owner left the jacket on the ground then went into the back yard of a home to play football. When he returned, he noticed his jacket was gone. He started walking northbound on Prospect, toward Immaculate Conception High School, when he notice the jacket on the ground. Missing was a blue Samsung Galaxy slide phone worth $200 and an iPod worth $200.

A wallet was found and turned in to Elmhurst College security at 9 a.m. Nov. 2. Nothing was missing from the wallet, but the victim's credit card had been used at Foot Locker in Melrose Park and at Phillips 66 in Maywood for $58 and $412.

A blue Royal Doulton vase worth $400 was taken from a home on the 300 block of West Eggleston back in August. The victim believes one of her caretakers may have taken it. She waited to file the report because she wanted to talk to the suspect and hoped it would be returned, but it wasn't.

A wallet and iPhone 4 were taken from a locked locker at Xsport Fitness, 633 W. North Ave., between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. Nov. 7.

A stereo/navigation system was removed from a vehicle parked at Elmhurst Kia, 727 Grand Ave., between 12:01 a.m. Nov. 4 and 9:45 a.m. Nov. 6. Loss is estimated at $3,000.

A man attempted to pay for a pack of cigarettes with a counterfeit $100 bill at Shell, 926 N. York, at 11:14 a.m. Nov. 7. The man is described as "Middle Eastern" and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, red sandals and driving a white Dodge Caravan.

A resident of the 600 block of Berkley Avenue was notified by a debt collection agency that she owes Comcast $534.01. Someone had opened an account in her name. The report was filed Nov. 7.

Two unauthorized purchases were made on a credit card belonging to an Elmhurst resident on Nov. 2, one for $591.30 at Footlocker in Chicao and the other for $898.80 at Brickyard B Fresh.

Two tires were removed from the back lot at Enterprise Leasing, 896 N. York Road, between 1 p.m. Nov. 7 and 6:45 a.m. Nov. 8. The tires are valued at $250 each.

Someone removed a black, $200 Marin mountain bike from the bike rack across from the police station at 128 E. First St. between 8:50 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Nov. 8.

A woman about 40 years old pumped $59.86 worth of gasoline into her white Cadillac at Shell, 301 W. Butterfield, and drove away without paying at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 11.

Four rims and tires worth $6,000 were stolen from a vehicle parked in the used car lot near Elmhurst BMW, 466 W. Lake St., between 6 p.m. Nov. 10 and 8:30 a.m. Nov. 12.

A resident of the 300 block of West Elm Park told police on Nov. 12 that he received a bill for $280.92 from AT&T wireless for a Blackberry and service, but he does not have an account with AT&T. The company said the account was opened at a Best Buy store.

A resident of the 400 block of East Vallette was notified by a collection agency that he owed $1,230.38 from a 2011 Comcast account. He reported that he did not live at the listed service address and had closed his own valid Comcast account in 2008. The police report was filed Nov. 12.

A spare tire and spare tire cover worth $750 were removed from a 2010 Toyota Rav 4 that was parked in front of the showroom at Elmhurst Toyota Scion at 6:34 p.m. Nov. 11.

Someone removed more than $600 worth of tools from a work vehicle parked at Pemco Services, 624 N. York St., between 3:30 p.m. Nov. 12 and 6:45 a.m. Nov. 13.

Someone smashed the passenger side window of a vehicle parked on the 100 block of East Fellows Court between 6:30 and 8 p.m. Nov. 13 and removed a Cobra radar detector. Total loss and damage is estimated at $400.

Residents of a home on the 400 block of North Emroy reported that various items, including dogs toys, a metal ashtray and a small black folding table, were taken from their yard between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Nov. 13. Loss is estimated at $50.

Someone stole a tan Coach purse from a vehicle parked in the lot at Church and York between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Nov. 14. A rear window had been smashed. The purse contained a drivers license and Social Security card.

Theft Arrest

Veronica Whitehead, 18, 126 Fellows Court Apt. C, and Simone J. Boyd, 18, 1157 S. Luther, Lombard, were arrested and charged with retail theft after they were allegedly seen on camera removing items from Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83, at 5:04 p.m. Nov. 3. They were released on bond.
