Man Refuses to Pay Cabbie, a Lighter to the Head Leads to Warrant Arrest and Teens Try to get Beer at CVS

The following arrest information was supplied by the Elmhurst Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Theft Arrests

A Chicago man took a cab into Elmhurst then reportedly refused to pay the fare June 4. Police found Pedro Ocampo, 20, 2509 W. Cortland, Chicago, pounding on a door at an apartment complex on the 100 block of West Virginia Street at 1:55 a.m. Police learned he had taken a cab from Oak Park to his girlfriend’s apartment to see his baby, but he had no money. His girlfriend would not let him inside nor pay for the $23 cab ride. Ocampo was charged with theft of services and consumption of alcohol by a minor. He was released on bond to his sister.

Michael J. Addison, 25, 215 W. 59th St. #19, Hinsdale, was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license after police responded to Kmart, 303 S. Route 83, for a theft in progress at 6:33 p.m. June 5. Police said Addison and another man attempted to take four televisions, but store security stepped in when the men left the store to move their vehicle closer to the building. Police stopped the vehicle and discovered the driver, Addison, had a suspended license. He was also charged with operating an uninsured vehicle and failure to wear a seat belt. The front passenger was arrested for attempted retail theft but released because personnel at Kmart refused to file a complaint. A third suspect was released at the scene because he had not gone inside the store.

Warrant Arrests

Joshua Manchester, 37, 159 N. Marion #262, Oak Park, was arrested on a warrant out of Cook County after police stopped his green Mercedes for expired registration and improper use of registration at St. Charles and Holly Street at 10:43 a.m. June 4. He was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Spencer Mendoza, 23, 134 Oneida, Elmhurst, was found to be wanted out of DuPage County for failure to appear on a traffic violation after an incident at 5:22 p.m. June 5 at 779 S. York Road. A man told police that while he was driving to church he saw Mendoza riding his bicycle recklessly, crossing in front of another vehicle and almost getting hit. The victim reported he felt something hit him in the back of the head. Mendoza reportedly admitted to throwing a lighter at the victim because his wife commented, “what an idiot.” Mendoza apologized and no charges were filed, but police discovered Mendoza was wanted on the warrant. He was released on bond.

Possession of Alcohol by Minors

Cody Bruno, 20, 266 Berteau, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of a false identification card, obstructing a police officer and possession of alcohol by a minor after an incident at CVS, 110 W. North Ave., at 9:33 p.m. June 3. While on patrol, police saw two men exchange money in the CVS parking lot. Bruno reportedly went inside the store and purchased Bud Light with an ID card that did not belong to him. He then gave the beer to Matthew A. Ross, 18, 197 N. Clinton, Elmhurst; Daniel Quaglia, 18, 15W011 Harvard, Elmhurst; and a 17-year-old boy. When police approached Bruno, he ran away. He was released on bond. The other three teens were charged with possession of alcohol by a minor and released on I-bond.

Public Intoxication

Charles R. Kerner, 34, 539 N. Biermann Ave., Villa Park, was arrested and charged with public intoxication after an incident at the train depot, 128 W. First St., at 6:06 a.m. June 4. Kerner reportedly was seen sleeping on a bench. Police reported he had abrasions on his head and knees. He refused medical treatment, was released on I-bond and taken home by taxi.
