Four men who hopped a freight train in Omaha and had planned to jump off near Chicago were cited for trespassing Thursday after one leapt from the moving locomotive in Elmhurst and was accosted by emergency personnel, the Suburban Life reports.
According to the paper, Elmhurst police and fire departments responded to a report of a person hit by a train near Haven Road, and located a man with minor head lacerations; the man originally claimed to have been knocked off-balance by the passing train, but later admitted to jumping off (his comrades stayed onboard and were later found by police.)
“The engineer was relieved,” Fire Department Battalion Chief David Winker told the paper. “He thought he had hit someone.”
