Trespasser Looking for Owed Money

A Downers Grove man was arrested at about 1:15 p.m. June 7 after he told Elmhurst police he went inside a home on the 700 block of York Road because a friend of his used to live there, owed him money and he went there to get it back.

Allan Schroeder, 52, of 1122 Gilbert St., was charged with criminal trespass to a residence and released.

A crew working at the house had gone to the hardware store, and when they returned, they noticed Schroeder leaving the house. He rode away on a bicycle carrying a backpack and was followed by one of the workers. Police were notified and arrested the man. Nothing was taken out of the home, police said.

Fraud Costs $2,900

An occupant of the 400 block of south Spring reported June 7 that someone used her bank business account  to buy a grant, costing $2,900, from Gold Com LLC in New Mexico. The purchase had been approved by the bank.

Van Stolen

A maroon Ford Econoline van was stolen in the employee lot of a business on the 300 block of Wrightwood, between 11 p.m. June 6 and 7 a.m. June 7. Both sets of the vehicle keys still were in a locked locker, police were told.  

Incident in Hotel

A Chicago resident, Albir Odicho, 27, of 2842 W. Summerdale, was charged with criminal damage to property and possession of a controlled substance at the Waverton Hotel, 624 N. York Road, at about 5:38 a.m. June , according to Elmhurst police.

Carnival Worker Has Warrant

Checking the names of workers at the Elmhurst Jaycees Charity carnival to ensure none were registered sex offenders, Elmhurst police found June 7 that Vincent Yacovella, 48, of Bourbonnais was wanted on a Du Page County warrant for failure to appear in court on a charge of driving while his license is suspended.  He was released after posting the $675 bail plus fee.

Fence, Mulch Burnt

A resident of the 100 block of Highland Avenue reported walking outside at about 3:12 p.m. June 7 and noticing a burnt smell in the air. The resident noticed the fence and mulch nearby were burned and damaged. The fire apparently started on the inside of the fence.

X Marks the Spot

Two white X’s, about 8 to 10 inches long, were seen at about 1:15 p.m. June 7 on the north exterior all of a building on the 100 block of north Michigan. The crosses could have been made by a construction company for possible maintenance, according to police. Damage is estimated at $150.

Shoplifting Arrest

Panna Sharma,  38, of 377 Crestwood in Wood Dale was charged with retail theft June 7 after she allegedly left a store on the 300 block of south Route 83 at about 4:05 p.m. without paying for $75.01 worth of jewelry.
