Man Captured After Pair in Stolen Vehicle Attempt to Escape Police

Police and K-9s were unsuccessful in tracking the second suspect.

A Memphis man is behind bars after he allegedly attempted to escape police at 10:59 p.m. Aug. 22. 

Police responded to a report of a theft in progress at Aim Leasing, 782 Industrial Drive. Two men fled in a stolen vehicle that went off the road and down an embankment at Interstate 290 and Lake Street. The two exited the vehicle and fled on foot, with officers in pursuit.

Officers captured Charles Cooper, 61, 3665 Neely Road, Memphis. They set up a perimeter and used canines to try and track the second suspect, but he was not located.

Cooper was charged with felony burglary and taken to DuPage County Jail, where he is being held on $7,000 bond. He has Sept. 3 court date.
