Man Handcuffed Wednesday Turns Out to Be Federal Agent

Police also report gun stolen from Jeep on East Court, and man arrested after crashing his vehicle into Elmhurst Restaurant allegedly was on drugs.

While on foot patrol on the 100 block of North Route 83, police saw a suspect with a Smith and Wesson handgun tucked into his waistband on his right-hand side at 1:04 p.m. June 12. Police stopped the suspect and handcuffed him, according to the report. It was later determined the suspect is a Federal agent with US Customs and Border Patrol. 

Gun Stolen From Jeep

A Ruger 9 mm pistol with a 4 1/2-inch barrel was taken from a white Jeep Grand Cherokee parked on the 400 block of East Court between 9:30 p.m. June 11 and 7 a.m. June 12. Nothing else appeared to be disturbed. The victim found his doors unlocked, and he told police he believed he had locked the vehicle.

James G. North, 59, 1547 W. Irving Park Road Apt. 123, Itasca, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs after his green Ford Ranger crashed into Elmhurst Restaurant, 441 Lake St., at 12:05 p.m. June 11. He also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a hypodermic needle. He was released on bond.

Fugitive from Justice

Garrett Wagner, 22, 932 Mitchell, Elmhurst, was arrested on a warrant for criminal recklessness and operating a vehicle while intoxicated out of Allen County, Ind., at his home at 9:06 p.m. June 11. He was taken to DuPage County Jail.

DUI Arrest

Thadius Bieniek, 24, 3N160 Cuyahoga Terrace, West Chicago, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal transportation of alcohol after police pulled over his blue Jeep Wrangler for obstructed windows at St. Charles and Mitchell at 4:48 a.m. June 12. He was released on bond.
