International Visitors to Elmhurst Allegedly Stole Jewelry From Kohl's

The two alleged thieves explained they were visiting the country and wanted jewelry for gifts, police said.

Two foreign visitors to Elmhurst caught stealing jewelry from Kohl's explained that they were merely acquiring gifts for when they returned home, police said.

Qadeer Asm, 48, and Shamsuddin Rishad, 46, both were charged with retail theft in connection with the alleged Thursday evening jewel heist.

Kohl's security told the cops that while Asm and Rishad were in the 303 S. Route 83 store they "placed numerous jewelry items on their persons and attempted to leave the store without paying," police said. "They were stopped in the vestibule."

Rishad had $208.17 in merchandise and Asm was caught with $274.16 worth of stuff, police said.

The "couple" told the cops that they "are in the country visiting and wanted the jewelry as gifts," police said.

The police said Rishad and Asma are living at a Lombard condo on South Rebecca Road. They were released from custody after posting bond.
