Elmhurst police report the man got away with cash and cigarettes after pointing a gun at the clerk.

A man who committed an armed robbery at the Shell station, 654 W. North Ave., eluded police Tuesday night, according to a police report released Thursday.

Elmhurst police reported the man entered the store at 10:37 p.m. Nov. 5, pointed a black shiny handgun at the store clerk and demanded money. The clerk opened the cash drawer and the gunman removed about $200. He also grabbed several cartons of Newport cigarettes.

He left the store in an unknown direction. Police set up a perimeter, but they were unable to locate him. During the search, they did, however, locate a carton of Newport cigarettes near the fenced area behind Mack's Golden Pheasant, which is to the west of the Shell station.
