Four Arrested for Drug Trafficking After Suspicious Package Found at Bensenville UPS

Police allegedly found 27 pounds of cannabis and 30 grams of cocaine during investigation.

Bond was set at $500,000 Friday for each of four men accused of operating a cannabis trafficking ring in the Chicago area, according to a press release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

Charged with cannabis trafficking and possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, both Class X felonies, are:

  • David Byun, 29, 503 Daybreak Lane, Roundlake
  • Brian Panezich, 29, 4 Regent Court, Lake Zurich
  • Landry Park, 29, 327 E. Seegers Road, Arlington Heights
  • Ted Park, 32, of 327 E. Seegers Road, Arlington Heights

On Thursday, Aug. 1, officials at the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group (DuMEG) were alerted to a suspicious package that was delivered to the UPS facility in Bensenville. The package allegedly was addressed to a fictitious company, of which Byun was the owner. On Thursday, Byun allegedly entered the UPS facility, retrieved the package and returned to a vehicle driven by Panezich.

Police conducted a traffic stop and discovered the packaged contained 12 pounds of cannabis, police said. Authorities learned that a similar package had allegedly been picked up at the UPS facility by Landry Park earlier that day.

Landry and Ted Park were located in Landry's vehicle, which allegedly contained 15 pounds of cannabis. During a search of Landry and Ted Park's apartment, police allegedly discovered more than 30 grams of cocaine.

“Drug dealers continue to be a menace to society,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a prepared statement. “The notion that these men allegedly set up a fictitious company and had their drugs mailed to them illustrates the fact that drug dealers will use any means necessary to continue the flow of their illegal drugs. That is why it is so important that we continue to work together to put drug dealers out of business and behind bars."

Berlin thanked Bensenville police, DuMEG officers and Assistant State’s Attorney Audrey Anderson for "her continued efforts to keep illegal drugs off our street.”

Arraignment for the defendants is scheduled for Aug. 26

Members of the public are reminded that these complaints contain only charges and are not proof of the defendants’ guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
