Enhanced DUI Enforcement Period Concludes With Multiple Arrests

Aside from a period of rain on Thanksgiving Day, local weather conditions were relatively mild over the long holiday weekend. But that didn't prevent Elmhurst police from tending to at least 26 traffic accidents in town, two of which involved driving under the influence of alcohol.

The weekend also concluded another enhanced DUI enforcement period for local police thanks to a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation. The stepped-up DUI enforcement period, which began Nov. 12 and continued through Nov. 25, provided for additional officers on the streets during the overnight hours.

The following DUI arrests were reported between Nov. 22 and 25:

Mario Cruz-Calicia, 35, 1041 Gerry Stevens, Bensenville, was arrested and charged with DUI, possession of cannabis, driving without a license and driving without insurance after police pulled over his red Nissan Sentra for speeding at Diversey and York at 2:41 p.m. Nov. 22. He was released on I-bond.

Nicholas Palumbo, 47, 200 Forest Court, Addison, was arrested and charged with DUI, driving too fast for conditions, no seat belt, improper lane use and illegal transportation of open alcohol after his red Ford Explorer hit a guardrail at Route 83 and North Avenue at 11:12 p.m. Nov. 23. He was released on I-bond.

Antina Redmond, 31, 18340 Glen Oak Ave. Apt. 3E, Lansing, was arrested and charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license after police pulled over a silver Pontiac G6 for disobeying a traffic control device at St. Charles and Oakland Grove at 3:15 a.m. Nov. 24. Redmond was released on I-bond.

Shane Brooks, 20, 279 Michigan, was arrested and charged with DUI and consumption of alcohol by a minor after police pulled over a gray Chevrolet Impala for improper lane use at Fremont and Highview at 4:01 a.m. Nov. 24. Brooks was released on bond.

Allison L. Whitcomb, 19, 783 Washington, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with DUI, consumption of alcohol by a minor and driving without insurance after police pulled over her green Toyota Solara for disobeying a traffic control device at Addison and Second at 1:01 a.m. Nov. 25. She was released on bond.

Anish R. Munagala, 22, 800 Megan Court, Westmont, was arrested and charged with DUI after police pulled over his blue Porsche Cayenne for improper lane use and failure to signal at 22nd Street and York Road at 4:03 a.m. Nov. 25. He was released on bond.

Francisco A. Portillo, 24, 361 Army Trail Road, Addison, was arrested and charged with DUI and driving without a license after police pulled over his tan Ford Explorer for speeding and improper lane use at Lake and Walnut at 4:07 a.m. Nov. 25. He was released on bond.

Brandon T. Murawski, 23, 12501 S. 80th Ave., Palos Park, was arrested and charged with DUI after his Jeep Wrangler hit a vehicle driven by a 61-year-old Westchester man at York and St. Charles Road at 6:20 a.m. Nov. 25.

Warrant Arrests

Police also arrested two people with valid warrants.

Jeffrey Schneider, 24, 554 Berkley, was arrested on two warrants for failure to appear out of DuPage County after police stopped him at 122 S. York St. at 1:07 a.m. Nov. 22. He was released on bond.

Brenda Barrera, 18, 515 Stevens Drive Apt. 304, Addison, was arrested on a failure to appear warrant out of DuPage County after police pulled her over for speeding at 7:49 a.m. Nov. 24. She also was charged with driving without a license. A passenger was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor. Barrera was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Fleeing and Eluding

Elmhurst and Villa Park police attempted to stop a Chrysler 200 for disobeying a traffic control signal at Route 83 and St. Charles Road at 2:25 a.m. Nov. 22, but the offender did not stop. The vehicle is a rental and the suspect lives in Lombard. An investigation is pending.
