Elmhurst Police Warn of Scammers Targeting Residents

Don't fall for the "My car broke down, please give me money" scam.

Elmhurst police have been investigating multiple incidents of fraud against homeowners.

In several incidents this week, the scam artists approach residences and tell them that they need money for gas, a car repair, locksmith or other plausible emergency. They often tell the resident that they have just moved in to the neighborhood.

The offenders will ask for an odd amount of money, such as $37.67, which helps to add credibility to their story. The suspect will then go to multiple houses with the same or similar story.
