Elmhurst Police Stepping Up DUI, Seat Belt Enforcement

Buckle up and stay sober behind the wheel.

Elmhurst police are stepping up enforcement of DUI laws through the Memorial Day holiday.

The Elmhurst Police Department is part of a year-long grant program from the Illinois Department of Transportation with the goal of reducing fatal and serious injury crashes with additional enforcement of DUI and seat belt laws.

The current campaign began May 13 and continues through Monday. The grant allows extra officers to be on patrol looking for impaired drivers and seat belt violations. As part of this grant, the Elmhurst Police Department is taking part in the nationwide Click It or Ticket campaign. Elmhurst police are conducting numerous seat belt enforcement zones throughout Elmhurst. While these campaigns will be taking place during various dates and times, the majority will be during the overnight hours. Additional officers also will be on patrol looking for impaired drivers.

Motorists are encouraged to drive safely and to always buckle up. If drinking during Memorial Day gatherings, make alternate driving arrangements. People also are encouraged to contact police if they see a vehicle that appears to be driven by an intoxicated driver.
