Elmhurst Police Step Up DUI Enforcement Through St. Patrick's Day Weekend
St. Patrick's Day doesn't officially happen until next weekend, but here in Elmhurst, festivities start early and extra police will be out. If you drink, leave the driving to someone else.
Another DUI enforcement campaign will begin today, Friday, March 8, and run through Sunday, March 17, to coincide with St. Patrick's Day festivities that will be held in Elmhurst and surrounding communities.
Elmhurst Police Department receives a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation to put additional officers on the streets during the enforcement period. The goal is to reduce fatal and serious-injury crashes by enforcing seat belt laws and stopping impaired drivers.
The stepped-up enforcement will take place all hours of the day, but police will be especially vigilant between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., which is the deadliest time on Illinois roads.
Elmhurst police are encouraging everyone to drive safely and buckle up. Those planning on drinking during St. Patrick's Day festivities should make alternate driving arrangements.
Anyone who sees a vehicle that appears to be driven by an intoxicated driver should call 911.
