Hose Ends Removed, Business Ransacked and Beer to be Tested for Contaminants Stolen

Elmhurst police report theft, suspicious circumstances.

Theft

Someone removed a cell phone from a locker in the men’s locker room at the Waverton Hotel, 624 N. York Road. The incident was reported at 1:23 p.m. April 1.

Someone attempted to enter a vehicle parked on the 200 block of Pick Avenue at around 10 a.m. March 30. The victim noticed pry marks around the frame of the car.

Someone smashed the driver side window of a vehicle parked on the 800 block of North York Road and took a GPS worth $100 between 5 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. April 3.

A resident on the 100 block of East Van Buren reported that after a party at the house April 2, two laptop computers were missing.

Someone removed $712 from the register at Massage Envy, 191 S. Route 83, between 10 p.m. April 8 and 7:15 a.m. April 9.

A man said he left his bag in the hallway at the PADS shelter at Elmhurst Presbyterian Church, 367 S. Spring Road, between 8 p.m. April 9 and 5:30 a.m. April 10, and someone removed a train ticket worth $130 from his wallet.

The owner of Accu Ray, 211 Spangler, a company that inspects products for contamination, reported that someone took a 15-pack case of Old Milwaukee beer between 8 p.m. April 5 and 8 a.m. April 6. The beer was in the warehouse and scheduled for inspection. None of the 15 employees at the company admitted to taking the beer.

Someone removed a 6-foot conduit pipe containing wires belonging to Red Mountain Group between 4 p.m. April 8 and 9 a.m. April 11. The pipe, valued at $150, was taken from Industrial Drive and Spangler.

Someone removed a red snow plow with black pump and chain worth $2,000 from a parking lot on the 100 block of North Addison Street between 3:06 and 3:13 a.m. April 10. A video showed an older model F Series Ford pickup truck with two men in the area where the plow was stored.

Someone broke the front door window of B’s Nail Salon, 705 N. York, and ransacked the business. Police noticed the burglary at 2:37 a.m. April 12.

Someone broke the window of a vehicle parked at Salt Creek Park and removed a purse between 2 and 2:30 p.m. April 12.

A woman on the 100 block of South Prospect Avenue reported at 9:20 p.m. April 11  that she was attempting to purchase a 2003 Ford Focus on Craig’s List. She wired $2,160 to a man, who then requested $1,500 for insurance for the vehicle. She refused and he hung up on her. The money was picked up through the transfer in Albany, Ore. She has been unable to reach the suspect since.

A resident of the 500 block of South Bryan reported that at 10:43 a.m. April 13 someone walked up her driveway and cut the hose sprayer fittings from the ends of her hose, then left the area. Loss is estimated at $35.

Someone stole a black and blue Sector 9 42-inch long board and a black and purple Madrid 36-inch long board from Eldridge Park, Spring and Butterfield roads, between 2:15 and 3 p.m. April 13. Each is worth $150.

Identity Theft

A resident of the 400 block of Huntington told police at 10:25 a.m. April 1  that Comcast was demanding a $600 past-due payment. The victim has never had an account with Comcast.

A resident of the 400 block of Sunnyside reported that she received a bill from Verizon for a cell phone account that was fraudulently opened in her maiden name sometime between March 23 and 24. The incident was reported April 3.

A resident of the 200 block of North Indiana Street told police that an unauthorized person was able to gain access to her Nicor Gas account on March 18.  The woman and her husband occupy the first floor and the suspect lives on the second floor. A letter was sent to the victim by Nicor stating they had received a request to change billing from the tenant’s address to hers.

Suspicious Circumstances

A resident flagged down a passing officer on the 600 block of Fairfield at 1 p.m. April 1 to report that a man in his late 50s with gray hair came to his door claiming to be from Micro Eye Security and that he was there to service the backup battery to the alarm system. The resident said he had no problems with the alarm, and the man left in a maroon Ford Explorer. Micro Eye Security said they had no service calls scheduled for his home.
