Elmhurst Police Report Incidents of Property Damage

Dealership vehicles keyed, buildings spray-painted, window smashed and more.

The custodian at Conrad Fischer School, 888 Wilson, told police that between 7:30 and 10:55 p.m. Oct. 21 someone spray-painted graffiti on the north wall of the school.

A resident of the 800 block of South Kirk Avenue told police that someone had damaged a boat he kept in the back yard between 1 p.m. Oct. 19 and 8 a.m. Oct. 22. He said his Lexus also had been scratched while it had been parked at Jewel, 944 S. York Road. Police did see scratches on both vehicles, but they looked to be older. Police said the man appeared to have been medicated and did not always make sense. Damage is estimated at $50.

Someone wrote with blue and gold spray paint on the south side of the underpass at Emroy and North Avenue causing $100 in damage. The $150 Swann camera installed by the city had been sprayed with red spray paint, and the locking mechanisms were tampered with. The damage was discovered at 8:23 a.m. Oct. 24.

Staff at Wilkins Hyundai Mazda, 750 N. York Road, noticed at 10:36 a.m. Oct. 24 that eight vehicles in the south lot had been keyed. Average damage to each vehicle is between $400 and $1,200. Surveillance video at a neighboring business did not capture anything, and there are no gates or barriers preventing vehicles or people from entering the property.

Someone used red and gold paint to write on the pedestrian underpass wall at North and Myrtle, police discovered at 2:14 p.m. Oct. 24.

A resident of the 500 block of South Hillside told police that as she backed her Mitsubishi Lancer out of the garage at 4:45 p.m. Oct. 26, she heard a popping noise. She drove to a shopping center in Villa Park, where another driver told her the right tire was low. She discovered a screw had punctured the right rear tire. She believes the screw may have deliberately been place behind her tire.

Someone spray painted profanity on the Huntington Learning Center sign at 179 S. Route 83 between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Oct. 29.

Someone smashed the rear window of a 2012 Ford Escape that was parked on the 400 block of South Washington between 11 p.m. Oct. 29 and 12:01 a.m. Oct. 30. Nothing appeared to be missing.

Someone removed the license plate from a bus at Timothy Christian School, 1061 S. Prospect, and wrapped it around the tailpipe of another bus between 6:15 p.m. Oct. 29 and 5:10 a.m. Oct. 31. Police said the bus also may have been entered.
