Elmhurst Police Report Gun Pointed at Driver, Arrests for Prostitution, Heroin

And, a resident on Myrtle finds his dog dead in his back yard.

Gun Pointed at Driver

Someone pointed a gun at a man traveling eastbound in his vehicle on North Avenue near Villa Avenue at about 6 p.m. July 6. The man told police that a champagne-colored, older SUV occupied by four men was traveling next to him when a rear passenger pointed a gun out the window toward his vehicle. Police checked the area but did not find the suspects.

Prostitution Arrest

Makhala Smith, 19, 2528 S. Evans, Arlington, Va., was arrested and charged with keeping a place of prostitution and possession of cannabis after police followed up on an advertisement on backpage.com at 7:27 p.m. July 6. Police said Smith agreed to meet the officer at Extended Stay America, 550 W. Grand Ave., and provide sexual services for $120. She was released on bond.

Solicitation of a Sexual Act

Daniel Daly, 30, 104 S. Princeton, Villa Park, was arrested and charged with solicitation of a sexual act at Extended Stay America, 550 W. Grand Ave., at 7:55 p.m. July 6. He was released on bond.

Possession of Heroin

David E. Heidner, 24, 294 Wendover, Bloomingdale, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance after police pulled over his beige Chevrolet Impala for speeding at Interstate 290 and Route 83 at 11:56 a.m. July 5. Police said he had 13 foils of heroin. He was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Possession of Hypodermic Needles/Shoplifting

Tina Fite, 24, 410 Villa Ave., Villa Park, was arrested and charged with retail theft and possession of hypodermic needles after police were called to Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83, at 6:21 p.m. July 6. Police said Fite removed $113.39 worth of clothing from the store without paying. They said they recovered hypodermic needles, a metal spoon with heroin residue, two lighters and several plastic baggies. She was released on bond.

Dog Found Dead

The owner of a St. Bernard called police after he found his dog deceased, hanging on the fence in his back yard, on the 300 block of Myrtle, at 5:26 p.m. July 9. The man said he let his dog outside in the back yard, and when he returned 15 to 20 minutes later, the dog was unresponsive and hanging on the fence by its collar. Police said it appeared the dog's collar had gotten caught on the fence, possibly while he was trying to jump over it. There were no signs of abuse or foul play, police said.
