Elmhurst Police Report Fraud, Theft, and DUI and Drug Arrests

Reports are for Sept. 28 through Oct. 3.

Burglary

A 27-foot snow mobile trailer parked behind Bricco Industries, 777 N. Larch Ave., was broken into between 10 p.m. Sept. 27 and 6 a.m. Sept. 28, police reported. The trailer was pried open but nothing was taken. Damage is estimated at $300.

Fraud

Two checks held by Riviera Sports Center were fraudulently cashed at two locations of West Suburban Bank and Trust in Elmhurst Aug. 30. A representative of Riviera called the bank to advise of a discrepancy on the August statement. Via further investigation it was learned a check was cashed at the Butterfield Road location and another was cashed at the bank's Park Street branch. Total loss is $1,899.95.

Someone wrote "JT + CK" on a sculpture outside of Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 S. Cottage Hill, between 5 p.m. Sept. 24 and 9 a.m. Sept. 27.

Suspicious Circumstances

A person on the 200 block of Highview Street reported at 6:57 p.m. Sept. 28 that someone called him repeatedly to get information to fill a prescription. The victim does not use the prescription, but has been receiving about four phone calls a day from the offender.

Disorderly Conduct

A woman in the 500 block of South Hillcrest Avenue reported she was walking her dog at 7:55 a.m. Sept. 29 when she noticed a dog off the leash in its yard. She told police she asked the owner to restrain the dog and he refused. She reported he called her names and behaved belligerently. After she told him to get his dog on a leash for the second time, he reportedly "got in her face" and threatened her. The offender admitted he should not have let things go "that far." Victim did not wish to sign a complaint for disorderly conduct.

Theft

Two 17-year-old boys were taken into custody by store security personnel at Dominick's, 215 S. Route 83, at 7:11 p.m. Sept. 29 for taking two bottles of vodka and attempting to leave the store. Both were charged under a city ordinance for retail theft and possession of alcohol by a minor. They were released to their parents.

Marybel Rodriguez, 31, 3009 W. Armitage, #2W, Chicago, and Chriselda Bermudez, 25, 4719 N. Springfield, Chicago, were seen on camera at 12:25 p.m. Sept. 30 at Walgreen's, 160 N. Palmer Drive, each removing two boxes of diapers from the store without paying for them. They were each released on $100 cash bonds.

Someone took a black Coach wristlet valued at $100 from the nurses office at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Sept. 30. The wristlet contained about $20 in cash, a debit card, gas card and drivers license.

A resident of the 200 block of South Kenilworth reported at 8:49 p.m. Oct. 1 that someone has been removing lawn ornaments from his front yard. Total loss is $68.

Someone took an Apple iPhone, identification cards and papers from the bar area at Holiday Inn, 624 N. York St., at 12:37 a.m. Oct. 2, after the victim left the items unattended for a few minutes.

Someone took the spare tire off of a Chevy Impala at Enterprise Leasing, 624 N. York Road, at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 2. Loss is estimated at $100.

Identity theft

Someone on the 500 block of South Washington Street reported at 11:09 a.m. Sept. 30 that more than 90 fraudulent transactions totaling about $15,500 were made on her Discover credit card between Aug. 25 and Sept. 7. Most of the fraudulent transactions took place in Chicago, at grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations and hotels.

Telephone Harassment

A resident of the 700 Block of North Howard reported that between 10 a.m. and 5:26 p.m. Sept. 30 a person claiming to be from a law firm called and made threats to her claiming she owed money.

DUI Arrests

William A. Finke, 26, 3N264 Emroy Ave., Elmhurst, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and obstructing traffic at 4:05 a.m. Oct. 1 at Palmer and Schiller streets. Police observed Finke's vehicle stopped for several minutes at a flashing red traffic signal. They approached the vehicle and reportedly saw Finke slumped behind the wheel with the engine running.

Dennis Gallegos, 37, 1901 S. Home, Berwyn, was arrested and charged with DUI, driving while license revoked, no insurance and transportation of open alcohol at 9:07 a.m. Oct. 1 at Lake Street and Grand Avenue. Police received a call for a man sleeping behind the wheel. Officers reported they found Gallegos sleeping in the drivers seat. He was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Homer Durbin, 55, 605 N. Wolf Road, Unit 9C, Hillside, was arrested for DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and no insurance, after he allegedly hit another car at Butterfield Road and Cambridge Street at 7:41 p.m. Oct. 1.

Criminal Damage

Sometime between 10 p.m. Sept. 30 and 11 a.m. Oct. 1, someone tried to pry open the rear hatch of a 1999 Ford Explorer parked on the 100 block of North Caroline. Entry was not gained and the doors were still locked.

Theft of Services 

Allied Waste reported to police that an Elmhurst resident is making fraudulent yard waste bag stickers. Authentic stickers sell for $2.25. An investigation is pending.

Possession of Alcohol in Public

Sean McBrady, 27, 5900 Valley Forge, Milwaukee, was arrested and cited for possession of alcohol on public property at 568 S. York Road at 1:36 p.m. Oct. 2. He was released on an I-bond.

Possession of a Controlled Substance

Curtis E. Dennis, 46, 226 Glade Ave., Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and driving while license suspended after a traffic stop at North End and York Road at 10:22 p.m. Oct. 2. Police said Dennis was in possession of two rocks of crack cocaine.

Domestic Battery

Timothy McNaught, 40, 846 Hawthorne Ave., was arrested at 8:28 p.m. Oct. 3 and charged with domestic battery at his home. He was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Suspicious Person

A man in his early 20s, wearing a dark jacket and jeans, was seen walking up driveways on the 200 block of Second Street checking vehicles for unlocked doors at 8:53 p.m. Oct. 3. No entry was made on any vehicle.

Criminal Damage

A landscaping brick was thrown through the window of a home on the 100 block of East Crestview Ave at 10:31 p.m. Oct. 3. The victim stated he was in the bathroom when he heard the kitchen window break. The victim's wife said the incident might be related to a message that was sent via Facebook. Damage is listed at $300.
