Elmhurst Police Report DUI, Texting While Driving and Cannabis Arrests

DUI Arrest

Benjamin C. Pikul, 25, 1715 Boulder Drive, Darien, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without insurance after police pulled over his black Honda Accord for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle at Roosevelt and Route 83 at 3:54 a.m. Sept. 4. He was released on bond.

George Taurus, 33, 5457 Cortez, Chicago, was arrested and charged with DUI, parking in the roadway and driving without insurance after police said his silver Jeep Liberty was found parked in the roadway at North and Melrose at 2:32 a.m. Sept. 5. He was released on bond.

Joseph Smoen, 63, 1804 N. 18th, Melrose Park, was arrested and charged with DUI and driving without insurance after police pulled over his black Toyota Camry after it struck a median at York and Lake at 12:31 a.m. Sept. 8. He was released on bond.

Texting While Driving

Jacob Dean, 30, 175 E. Delaware, Chicago, was cited for using a wireless phone while driving and no valid registration after police pulled over his white Volvo at Lake and York at 5:15 p.m. Sept. 3. He was released at the scene.

Possession of Cannabis

William Himes, 35, 510 Hatlen, Mount Prospect, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without insurance after police pulled over his Chevrolet Aveo for no front license plate at North Avenue and Route 83 at 12:35 a.m. Sept. 4. A passenger in the vehicle, Cesar Huezo, 32, 415 Oriole Circle, Mount Prospect, was cited for possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were released on bond.

Robert Teixeira, 27, 237 E. LaPorte, Addison, and Michele E. Mumbower, 27, 3513 Hawthorne, Franklin, were arrested and charged with possession of cannabis after police said they saw a hand-to-hand transaction in the parking lot at Mariano's, York and Industrial Drive, at 7:09 p.m. Sept. 6. They were released on bond.

Alejandro Arias, 27, 696 Lee, Hillside, was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis after police received a call for a suspicious Mitsubishi Galant at 110 W. Butterfield at 1:31 a.m. Sept. 8. He was released on bond.

Possession of Alcohol in Public

Lydmila V. Lyhachava, 34, 135 S. York Road Apt. 516, was cited for possession of open alcohol in public after an officer on bike patrol said he saw Lyhachava drinking a 40 ounce King Cobra while entering the passenger side of a vehicle on the 100 block of East First Street. Lyhachava was released on bond. 

Jonathan Vercoe, 25, 318 Vernon, Wheaton, and Bobby Boyd, 25, of 1002 Cherry, Wheaton, were cited for possession of open alcohol in public after police saw them drinking alcohol in the Adelaide parking deck at 11:51 p.m. Sept. 7. They were released on bond.
