Elmhurst Police Report Arrests for Possession of Cannabis and Theft

Also, thieves steal woman's purse while she visits cemetery.

Possession of Cannabis

Jose R. Madera, 20, 1143 David Drive Apt. 1, Bensenville, was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and on a failure to appear warrant on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge after police pulled over the Oldsmobile Regency he was riding in for no seat belt and expired registration at Grantley and York at 7:24 a.m. Oct. 4. Madera was found to be in possession of 29.8 grams of cannabis and a digital scale. He was released on bond. The driver, Torrence S. Clanton, 24, 546 Eastern Ave., Bellwood, was charged with expired registration and released via I-bond at the scene.

Retail Theft Arrest

Ciara Quirk, 25, 845 E. 22nd St. Apt. 104, Lombard, was arrested and charged with retail theft after she allegedly took $160 worth of merchandise from Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83, at 2:40 p.m. Oct. 4. She was released on I-bond.

Theft

A Hitachi miter box worth $450, three Paslode nail guns worth $700 and a Ridgid sawzall worth $125 were taken from a van parked on a driveway on the 100 block of North Elm Street between 8:30 p.m. Sept. 26 and 6:30 a.m. Sept. 27. The passenger front window was broken.

Tools worth $900 were taken from a van parked on the 400 block of North York Street between 7:30 p.m. Sept. 26 and 8 a.m. Sept. 27. The front window was shattered.

A $400 iPhone and $40 were taken from a locked gym locker at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, between 3:45 and 5:45 p.m. Sept. 25. Police said other lockers were broken into as well.

Someone took 52 wooden pallets worth $364 from a fenced area behind Ameristar Fence Products, 872 Industrial Drive, between 2:30 p.m. Sept. 24 and noon Sept. 27.

Four chrome rims and tires worth $600 were taken from behind a garage in the 200 block of Indiana between 6 p.m. Sept. 25 and 10 a.m. Sept. 27.

Three central air conditioning units were stolen from ABD Tank and Pump, 730 N. Industrial Drive, between Sept. 19 and 9:57 a.m. Oct. 3. No estimate of value was reported.

A bad check in the amount of $20,658.92 was written to purchase a silver Dodge Grand Caravan from Larry Roesch Chrysler, 200 W. Grand, at noon Oct. 3. The check was returned to the business due to the bank not being able to locate the account listed on the check.

Someone stole a purse from a woman visiting Mount Emblem Cemetery, 600 E. Grand Ave., at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 4. The victim told police she saw an older red Pontiac drive past her vehicle. She heard a car door slam and saw the Pontiac speed away. The purse's contents, except for the victim's $400, were found strewn throughout the cemetery.

Identity Theft

A resident of the 400 block of North Howard discovered an unauthorized transaction on her Harris Bank account in the amount of $217.50. It was reported to police at 10 a.m. Oct. 2.
