Elmhurst Police Step Up Holiday Patrols

Overnight hours a focus of targeted DUI and seat belt enforcement

Elmhurst police on Monday began its latest round of targeted traffic patrols aimed to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes.

Working off an Illinois Department of Transportation grant, police will run focused enforcement operations from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. until Jan. 1, but the special traffic details will be run throughout the day and night.

The grant specifically allows the department to put extra officers on the look out for impaired drivers and seat belt violations.
