Elmhurst Police Know the Biggest Party Day of the Year is the Day Before Thanksgiving

And they will be watching to see who gets behind the wheel.

Elmhurst police are again taking part in a grant program provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes. Additional enforcement of DUI and seatbelt laws will be pursued during the overnight hours.

The most recent phase of this campaign began on Monday, Nov. 12, and continue through Sunday, Nov. 25. This grant allows extra officers to be on patrol looking for impaired drivers and seatbelt violations. The extra officers will focus on the hours between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., which are the most dangerous times on Illinois roadways. An extra emphasis will be placed on the Thanksgiving weekend, specifically the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving.

Motorists are encouraged to drive safely and to always buckle up. If they are planning on drinking during any holiday activities, they should make alternate driving arrangements. People are also encouraged to contact police if they see a vehicle that appears to be driven by an intoxicated driver.
