Elmhurst Police K-9 'Diesel' Sniffs Out Gun After Shooting Last Week

Alleged shooter apprehended by Villa Park police.

Elmhurst police and their K-9 unit helped the Villa Park Police Department in their search for a man who was involved in a shooting in the village last week.

According to a report in the Daily Herald, Anthony Almendarez, 21, of Chicago, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon after he allegedly shot a 32-year-old Villa Park resident on the 300 block of North Ardmore Avenue July 1.

The victim's injuries are not life-threatening.

Police say gang activity is suspected.

The Elmhurst K-9 unit located the offenders shirt and baseball hat after the shooting, which happened around midnight. The dog also reportedly located the weapon, a black shotgun, behind some bushes.

The offender was apprehended by Villa Park police.
