Elmhurst Police Get Involved in Theft and Drug Cases at York

Cannabis reportedly changing hands in classroom, bathroom at York; citywide cannabis arrests also reported.

A student at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, was found with stolen property in his locker on Jan. 31, Elmhurst police said. Found in his locker was a pair of Jordan gym shoes that had been reported missing. The offender said he found the shoes and placed them in his locker for safe-keeping until he had time to return them. Police contacted his probation officer and he was released to his mother.

Elmhurst police reported that a drug transaction took place in a classroom at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, at 2 p.m. Jan. 31. The juvenile offender was found to have a baggie containing suspect cannabis. He admitted to purchasing the cannabis from an unknown male in the bathroom. He was released to his uncle and charges are pending.

A number of other arrests for cannabis were made in Elmhurst over the last few days.

A 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were cited for possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia after police pulled over their gray Pontiac van for expired registration at Grand and Church street at 5:14 p.m. Jan. 31. They were released to their parents.

Timothy J. Johnson, 34, 1931 Prairie Square, Schaumburg, was arrested on a warrant out of DuPage County for possession of cannabis after police pulled over his silver Mercury Grand Marquis for defective windshield at 7:27 a.m. Feb. 2. When police searched his vehicle, they found a glass smoking pipe and a pack of cigarettes containing cannabis. He was charged under city ordinances with unlawful possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a license. He was released on I-bond for the city charges, posted $2,000 cash bond on the warrant and was released.

Terrence Billips, 37, 1454 N. Linder, Chicago, was arrested on two warrants out of DeKalb after police pulled over his red Buick LeSabre at North Avenue and Route 83 at 4:23 p.m. Feb. 1. Police also found a marijuana blunt in the ashtray of the vehicle and charged him with possession of cannabis. He was released on I-bond, posted $5,000 bond on the two warrants and was released.

William Abraham, 57, 6502 N. Nixon, Chicago, was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia after police pulled over his Hyundai Santa Fe for disobeying a traffic control signal at North and Michigan at 12:52 a.m. Feb. 2. He was released on bond.
