Elmhurst Police Continue Enhanced DUI Enforcement Through New Year's Day

Don't say we didn't warn you.

Elmhurst police are reaching the end of another enhanced DUI enforcement campaign, made possible by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The enforcement period, which began Dec. 20, will run through Wednesday, Jan. 1 to include New Year's Eve. The goal of the grant is to reduce fatal and serious-injury crashes with additional enforcement of DUI, seat belt and distracted driver laws.

Extra patrol officers will be on the streets looking for impaired and distracted drivers at all times of the day, but mainly during the overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., the deadliest time on Illinois roads.

Motorists are encouraged to drive safely and buckle up. Anyone planning on drinking on New Year's Eve should make alternate driving arrangements. Police also are asking anyone who sees a vehicle that appears to be driven by an impaired driver to call 911.
