Elmhurst Man Claiming to be Robbery Victim Now Faces Drug Charges

Police say Michael Sullivan's shaky story and phone records revealed he had planned a drug deal with the two men who allegedly took his money.

An Elmhurst man who said he was the victim of an armed robbery in Forest Park now faces charges of drug dealing, according to police.

Forest Park police on Sunday, July 28, responded to a robbery call around 4 p.m. near Harvard Street and Hannah Avenue, where they found Elmhurst resident Michael Sullivan, 18. Sullivan told police he was robbed by two people, who fled the scene.

Police later stopped Reginald Williams, 21, of Naperville, and a juvenile in the 900 block of Harlem Avenue. They reportedly found about 105 grams of marijuana in the car and $126 in Williams's pocket. The juvenile told police a BB gun was involved in the incident with Sullivan and that it had been thrown from the car.

But Sullivan's story didn't add up with the stories of the alleged robbers, police said.

Sullivan told police Williams and the juvenile approached him and asked him if he wanted to buy pot after he accidentally showed them he had a large sum of cash on him at the No Gloves softball tournament, police said. When Sullivan told them he'd buy about $10 worth, Williams said they should drive around to avoid cops in the area, according to police reports.

Sullivan told police the transaction took a turn for the worse when Williams pulled a BB gun on him in the car as he was counting his cash to pay for the pot. Sullivan told police he grabbed the gun from Williams and pointed it at him and the juvenile as Williams grabbed the cash in Sullivan's lap, prompting a fight in the car, police said.

Sullivan then got out of the car and yelled that he'd been robbed.

Williams and the juvenile had a different story, according to police.

They alleged they called Sullivan to buy pot and brought the gun to ensure their safety. When the three men were in the car, they alleged Sullivan produced a bag of pot but then became aggressive with Williams, prompting the juvenile to pull the gun, police said.

Williams's phone showed multiple calls between him and Sullivan prior to the incident, police said.

Police said Sullivan then changed his story, saying he formerly sold marijuana, and that a gang member associate of his told him to meet the juvenile and Williams, buy pot from them and sell it in Elmhurst.

Sullivan was processed on one count of marijuana delivery and one count of marijuana possession. He was given an Aug. 15 court date and is being held on bond.

Williams and the juvenile were charged with attempted theft by deception and released on bond.
