Elmhurst Man Arrested for Breaking Into Multiple Vehicles Wednesday

Police say Derek K. Kaufman broke into vehicles in his own apartment complex.

An Elmhurst resident police say is on parole was arrested early Wednesday morning after he reportedly broke into multiple vehicles parked in and around his own apartment complex.

Witnesses saw Derek K. Kaufman, 19, 329 W. Kimbell Ave. Apt. 6, behaving suspiciously and looking into vehicles at 5:22 a.m. Wednesday. Police located Kaufman, who reportedly admitted entering the vehicles.

Police listed the addresses of the thefts at 329 W. Kimbell, 341 W. Kimbell, 322 W. Kimbell  and 315 W. Kimbell. Items stolen include two iPods, a drivers license, debit cards and membership cards.

Kaufman was charged with burglary to a motor vehicle and taken to DuPage County Jail. A parole violation warrant was issued by the Illinois Department of Corrections. His court date is scheduled for Sept. 10.
