Elmhurst Man Accused of Threatening to Blow Up St. Patrick's Day Parade on Patch
DuPage County prosecutors said man made statements about "well placed pressure cookers" along St. Patrick's Day parade route.
A 55-year-old man has been charged with disorderly conduct after he posted comments about blowing up Elmhurst's St. Patrick's Day Parade on Patch, authorities said.
Glenn Schumacher, who resides on Cedar Avenue in Elmhurst, appeared in court on Sunday, where bail was set at $100,000. Police said he made false bomb threats, court records said.
DuPage County prosecutors allege that around 3 p.m. March 7, Schumacher left a statement about “a few well placed pressure cooker pots” along the St. Patrick’s Day parade route in a story on Patch.

“Pressure cooker pots” were the same type of explosive device set off at the Boston Marathon last April that killed three people and injured 264 others.
The comment was left on a St. Patrick's Day parade preview, which took place the next day.

A reader, responding to Schumacher’s alleged comment, stated: “C'mon guy (idontgiveitout), I think everyone enjoys a little cleverness or humor to these local posts but ‘a few well placed pressure cooker pots’ is a bit crass. Used to maim and kill people, I imagine a few of these folks are going to find [this] objectionable.”
Elmhurst Police did not return calls seeking comment.
Schumacher is being held in the DuPage County Jail in Wheaton. He has hearings scheduled for March 18 and March 31, state’s attorney spokesman Paul Darrah said.
