Elmhurst Sexual Abuse Case From 2010 Working its Way Through Court

Here are a few of the cases we're keeping our eye on in DuPage courts.

Elmhurst—An April 27 hearing has been set in the case of a man accused of exposing himself to a young girl in 2010. At that hearing, will ask a judge to suppress evidence prosecutors have related to the incident at an Elmhurst banquet hall during a wedding. Parikh is charged with attempted predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and sexual exploitation of a child. Prosecutors tried to have Parikh's suppression motion thrown out with a hearing, but a judge recently denied that move.

Naperville—School records of two female students at Naperville North High School have no information relevant to the sex abuse case of a former school counselor, a judge recently ruled. is charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving one of the two students for which records were sought. The judge sealed the records, which will not be shared with Carbonaro's defense attorney. In addition, prosecutors are seeking to block Carbonaro from offering evidence of an alibi at trial because one has not been disclosed to this point. Prosecutors also want to prevent Carbonaro from offering "self-serving hearsay" testimony about his innocence or inquiring about past sexual conduct, according to court records. He returns to court April 24.

Naperville—A woman accused of trying to steal a puggle puppy from a Naperville pet store has been indicted. faces one retail theft charge, which claims she tried to take the dog from Happiness is Pets in February. Police said Sullivan put the dog under coat and began to leave the store before being stopped by employees. Sullivan is scheduled to be arraigned on March 19.

Woodridge—A grand jury has indicted a Rosemont woman on charges she intentionally set a fire at a Woodridge apartment complex. , 19, is accused of aggravated arson and residential arson in connection to the February fire at the Windsor Lakes apartments. She remains held in DuPage County Jail on $1 million bail, with a Monday hearing scheduled. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency has a hold placed on Bustamante, which means she would remain in custody if she were to post bond in the case.
