Elmhurst Cop Offers Man a Ride Then Arrests Him

An Elmhurst man walking in the cold turned out to have warrants out of three counties, police said.

At least it's warmer in jail.

An Elmhurst cop offered a ride to a man he saw walking in the cold along Route 83 Monday morning and ended up giving him a trip to jail.

Jovan Deandre Lumpkin, 30, of 600 S. York St. ended up having warrants for his arrest.

An officer "observed a pedestrian walking along the shoulder of Route 83 and due to the extreme cold temperatures on this day, (the officer) stopped to speak with him and try to give him a ride," police said, "but before he got into the squad car, his name was run and four valid arrest warrants were discovered out of Will, DuPage and Kankakee counties."

Lumpkin was taken to the DuPage County jail.
