Downtown Streets Closed for Police Activity, Vehicle Crashes Tuesday

Elmhurst police followed a man suspected of domestic battery southbound on York Road into the downtown business district Tuesday afternoon. They were able to capture him and take him into custody on the 200 block of North York, near City Hall. The incident resulted in multiple vehicle crashes.

The incident began at about 3:30 p.m. when police dispatch received a call for domestic battery at Springhill Suites, 410 W. Lake St. in Elmhurst. A female victim reportedly had locked herself in a room after she was attacked by a man, who took off in a white vehicle southbound on York Road.

Elmhurst police were able to stop him when he got to City Hall, but not before multiple vehicles were hit. Police reportedly shut down York Road between Second and Third streets to deal with the crashes.

Medics were called to the crash site as well as to Springhill Suites for the victim.
