Doors Pried Open, Vehicle and Locker Broken Into, and Identity Stolen

All in a day's work for thieves in Elmhurst.

Attempted Burglary

Someone tried to pry open the front door of a home on the 100 block of East Fullerton Avenue between 9:45 and 11:45 a.m. Aug. 31, while the resident was out. When the homeowner returned, she discovered the home alarm had been activated.

Someone entered a garage on the 300 block of North Ridgeland between 7:30 and 9:03 p.m. Aug. 31. Nothing was reported missing, but damage to the door is estimated at $200.

Criminal Trespass

Someone entered a condo on the 400 block of South Spring Road between 2 p.m. Sept. 2 and 1:06 a.m. Sept. 4 without permission and damaged several items.

Theft

Someone took binoculars, a cell phone charger, power converter and about $5 in change from a vehicle parked in a driveway on the 600 block of West Thomas Street between 12:01 and 6 a.m. Sept. 2.

Two men were seen taking pallets worth $40 from the rear of Dominick's, 215 S. Route 83, at 1:52 p.m. Sept. 4. The men were last seen traveling southbound on West Avenue in a white commercial van.

Someone removed the lock from a gym locker at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, and removed a $100 AT&T iPhone from a backpack between 2:20 and 3:05 p.m. Sept. 5.

Identity Theft

A resident of the 700 block of South Swain received a letter from the IRS stating that her social security number was fraudulently used to file 2011 income tax for someone else. The report was made with the Elmhurst police on Sept. 4.

I agree with you but I don't know if we as just citizen's can do anything to stop that practice. IRead More wish that each cyclist had to have a license, and that it was enforced by laws and police, on the bike so that people could report occurrences and have the person receive a ticket just like a person driving an auto. That would make sense.

I was really hoping that the Elmhurst Police would sound in on this info-I do understand kids willRead More be kids, but if one of them is hurt, that adult driver will need to live with that for the rest of their life-so let's come up with a solution for both bicyclist and cars to be in harmony. I really think that a step up in enforcement in the bicycle laws would help-just like the drunk driving laws-believe me the bicycle laws are just as important.
