A Des Plaines man lost it and tossed a garbage can when he found out his car was getting towed, police said.

Christian Rivera, 24, of 1372 Fargo Ave. was a passenger in a car that was pulled over about 2 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of North and Addison avenues.

The driver, 24-year-old Sagarkumar Patel of 2049 Pine St. in Des Plaines, was charged with driving under the influence and failing to signal. The cops also called for a tow to haul away the Volkswagen Jetta he was driving, and that's what set Rivera off, police said.

Rivera, who apparently owned the Jetta, was "upset about his car being towed and began shouting and cursing," police said.

Rivera "grabbed a garbage can from the driveway they were in front of and threw it to the ground," police said. "He was taken into custody and charged with" disorderly conduct.

Both Rivera and Patel were released on bond.

Towing the car was totally out of line and I believe is unlawful unless it is disabled or causing a hazard. Since the owner of the car was present it should have been a no brainer for the cop to realize it was not a hazard. Clearly there is collusion going on with the towing company.

IG. All police depts . State, local and county have their towing connections. It's been a hustle between the police and tow companies since the beginning of time. Do you think it's a coincidence you always see the same companies at accidents etc.?

Disorderly conduct is a catch all phrase used way to often and primarily serves one real purpose, police overtime and more arrests.which theoretically . reflect higher police productivity. I would throw a garbage can also if I thought my vehicle was towed for a wrongful reason.
