Crime of Passion, Counterfeit Cash and a Vacuum Thief

It's all in a day's work for Elmhurst police.

Crimes of Passion and 'Friendship'

Someone wrote "I love you so much, Your admirer" and other terms of endearment in pink lipstick on a vehicle parked on the 500 block of East St. Charles Road between 2 and 11:30 p.m. March 24.

A house on the 900 block of Chatham was egged at about 12:05 a.m. March 10. The victim's son said he received a strange text message from an unknown person claiming to be his friend just before the incident. The texter denied involvement but was being uncooperative, police said.

More Counterfeit Bills

A female wearing a black jacket, brown pants and a multicolored scarf attempted to use a counterfeit $100 bill to pay for diapers and a teething ring at CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave., at 8:38 p.m. March 25. When the suspect was confronted about the bill, she became nervous and started pacing, according to the police report. She said she was going out to her car and never returned. This is not the first case of counterfeit bills turning up in Elmhurst recently. Someone used a counterfeit $50 for a purchase at McDonald's, 190 E. Butterfield Road, on Jan. 7. A man wearing a dark puffy coat tried to pay for a sandwich at Jersey Mike's Subs, 297 N. York Road, with a counterfeit $100 bill March 4. And, a female suspect (or suspects) attempted to pay for items using counterfeit $100 bills at Bath and Body Works, 171 S. Route 83, and at Amy's Hallmark, 161 S. Route 83, on March 12.

Fool Me Once ...

A subject was issued a no-trespass order at Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave., at 4:08 p.m. March 22. Library staff has had repeated issues with the subject, who has been drinking alcohol and causing disturbances at the library, police said. He was served a no-trespass notice on Nov. 17, 2012, but was then sent a letter by the library director stating he could return on Feb. 17 as long as he caused no further disturbances. On March 22, he brought open alcohol to the library, police said. Other recent trespass arrests at Elmhurst Public Library occurred Feb. 9 and March 19.

It's Not Easy Being Clean

A man about 5-feet, 10-inches tall wearing a blue cap and black jacket walked out of the emergency exit of Kohl's, 303 Route 83, carrying two Dyson vacuum cleaners at 3:26 p.m. March 23. A woman in the parking lot of Kohl's at the time saw the man exit the store with the two vacuums and load them into the back seat of a brown vehicle. She called Kohl's security and told them that the man, after loading up the vacuums, got into the front passenger seat and an unknown driver drove out of the lot, police said. They are reviewing video surveillance.

Well, That's Kind of Embarrassing

Someone stole a wireless phone from a security officer at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, 155 Brush Hill, at 1 a.m. March 20. Police said the suspect was given a $400 Cisco Unified wireless IP phone to make a call, and when security returned, the suspect and the phone were gone. Video surveillance shows the suspect leaving the hospital with the phone.

Suspicious Phone Call

Someone called a resident of the 400 block of Parkview at 1:09 p.m. March 25 and stated he was a Drug Enforcement Agency agent and was coming to her house with an arrest warrant. A police officer called the number back and the person on the other end refused to speak to him, police said.
