Crashes Involve DUI, Woman Called in for Child Abuse and Scammer Threatens to Blow Up House

DUI Arrests

Walter Alonzo, 19, 118 Bridget Apt. GB, Bensenville, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after his green Ford Windstar allegedly crashed into a vehicle driven by a 50-year-old Naperville man at 956 N. York at 9:56 p.m. Sept. 21. Alonzo fled the scene, police said. He also was charged with driving without a license, driving without insurance, leaving the scene of an accident and consumption of alcohol by a minor. He was released on I-bond.

Michael Shipinski, 47, 443 S. York, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with DUI after his blue Chevrolet Silverado struck a light pole at Palmer and Schiller at 1:41 a.m. Sept. 22. He also was charged with improper lane use and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was taken to the hospital.

Jon Baker, 51, 136 Ann Apt. 3, Clarendon Hills, was arrested and charged with DUI after police pulled over his gray Toyota Tacoma for improper lane use at North and Michigan at 12:13 a.m. Sept. 23. He was released on I-bond.

Battery

Damian Norris, 24, 130 Fellows Court Apt. D, was arrested and charged with battery at his home at 6:30 a.m. Sept. 21. He was released on bond.

Child Abuse Investigation

Officers responded to a call at Oberweis Dairy, 1018 S. York Road, for a woman who was abusing her child in the parking lot at 4:53 p.m. Sept. 24. Police talked to the woman, who said her child was not listening and she was trying to get him into her car. He then ran away from her and she had to chase him in the parking lot to get him back into the car, she told police. She said she yelled at him and spanked him on the butt. Officers did not see any suspicious marks or bruising on the victim and the woman was not charged.

Harassment

An Elmhurst resident received a call from a man stating he was from Readers Digest at 10 a.m. Sept. 19. The caller told the resident he had won a Mercedes and $8.5 million, and that he should go to CVS Pharmacy and buy two separate "money Pack Refill Cards" for $500 each to give to the man who will deliver the car. The complainant said he would not do that and ended the call. At 3 p.m. Sept. 21, the suspect called again and the complainant told him he knew this was a scam and he was going to call the FBI. The suspect then said, "Maybe I should blow up your house." Officers were unable to contact the suspect.
