Courtwatch: Elmhurst Mother Will Soon be Sentenced for Crimes Against Her Son

A Sept. 24 sentencing has been set for the Elmhurst mother who pleaded guilty to aggravated battery to a child in connection with a June 2011 incident involving her son.

Cheryl Luchetta had been after police and prosecutors said she drugged her then 7-year-old before cutting her own throat in their Elmhurst home. She awoke the next morning and called 911 to tell police an ex-boyfriend broke into the home, poisoned her son and cut her neck, according to records.

She has not been released from custody since her 2011 arrest. In May, DuPage County Judge Daniel Guerin because he said she posed a "grave risk" to her ex-husband and son if released while awaiting court procedings. Prosecutors have said she violated multiple times a court order prohibiting her from contacting them. Guerin also ordered her to stay more than a mile from the boy if she should happen to be released.

Her erratic behavior also landed her in segregation multiple times while in jail, according to reports.

She faces between six and 30 years on the Class X felony.

Following are other cases we're keeping track of in DuPage County courts:

Hinsdale—A Chicago man initially charged with attempted robbery at the Clock & Watch Shop pleaded guilty to a felony burglary count as part of a deal with prosecutors, court records show. in July after he went into the store, implied he had a weapon and demanded watches from the clerk. The 62-year-old woman working at the store began screaming and Quevedo fled without any merchandise, but was stopped by onlookers who heard the commotion. Quevedo was sentenced to 90 days in DuPage County Jail, with credit for half that amount as time served. He was put on 24 months of probation and ordered to stay away from the store. Prosecutors dropped two attempted robbery counts as part of the plea agreement, documents state.

Woodridge—Michael Dehlinger of Woodridge pleaded guilty Aug. 28 for his part in a methamphetamine conspiracy, and agreed to testify against a co-defendant as part of a deal with prosecutors. Dehlinger after police discovered a small meth lab, drugs and drug paraphernalia inside his apartment while police served him an arrest warrant. He was initially charged with conspiracy to make meth and possession of meth-making materials, but pleaded guilty to possessing less than 30 grams of "methamphetamine precursor," court records show. He was sentenced to 180 days in DuPage County Jail, with credit for time already served, placed on two years of probation, and ordered to pay $2,440 and undergo regular drug testing. He also cannot have contact with, but must testify against, John Stark, who awaits trial on meth conspiracy and possession with intent to deliver charges. He returns to court Sept. 19, according to court papers.
