Court Watch: Two Cases of Child Pornography and a Murder Trial Delayed for Medical Evaluation

Glen Ellyn—A Glen Ellyn man pleaded not guilty Oct. 17 to four counts of aggravated possession of child pornography, according to court records. , 24, was indicted Oct. 13 following his arrest as part of an investigation by the DuPage County Sheriff's Office. Police seized two computers and found pornographic movies involving children, officials said. Zito remains held in DuPage County Jail on $75,000 bail. He returns to court Nov. 21.

Naperville—A grand jury recently indicted a Naperville man on nine counts of aggravated possession of child pornography, records show. David Denoftrio, 38, was arrested in September after an investigation by Naperville police turned up suspected images of child pornography. He is free on bail, according to the DuPage County Jail, and is expected to be arraigned during an Oct. 24 hearing.

Wheaton—The expected Oct. 18 start of a murder trial in the 2009 stabbing death of Michael Scalzo was delayed after suspect Michael Delaney's attorney said new information relating to his client's medical history had surfaced. Delaney, who remains in DuPage County Jail, is charged with stabbing Scalzo four times in the chest and upper torso in what prosecutors claim was a premeditated attack. Delaney made threats to several people, including an ex-girlfriend, on June 19, 2009, at a Wheaton apartment complex, according to court records. Delaney acted in self-defense, his attorney has said. Delaney asked for his trial to be delayed after his attorney learned of a medical evaluation where Delaney was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder. On Oct. 21, Judge Daniel Guerin agreed to give Delaney time to have the evaluation looked at by an expert. Delaney returns to court Dec. 8.
