Cop Suspects Kid Riding Decorative City Centre Bike, Takes it Away For 'Safekeeping': Police

The police officer reportedly took the bicycle away from the child for "safekeeping."

An Elmhurst cop spotted a child riding a bicycle that suspiciously resembled those installed as decorations around the city centre so he took it away, police said.

The officer noticed the "juvenile riding a spray-painted light blue bicycle, which appeared to be similar to those on display as artwork throughout the Elmhurst City Centre area," police said.

The boy was pedaling about the area of Schiller and York streets about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

The officer "approached (the) juvenile who stated he obtained the bicycle from a friend," police said.

The officer was unable to determine the ownership of the 15-speed Schwinn woman's mountain bike so he "put (it) into evidence for safekeeping," police said.
