Convicted Felon Arrested in Villa Park on Weapons Charges

Police found a loaded gun with ID numbers scratched off.

A Bellwood man arrested in Villa Park is facing multiple weapons charges after a loaded gun with the ID numbers scratched off was found in the car he was riding in Wednesday night, according to a press release from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Special Response 22 Unit, patrolling the area of the Brandywine Subdivision around Ardmore Avenue in unincorporated Villa Park, stopped the vehicle for multiple traffic violations around 9 p.m., the Sheriff's Office said. The driver, Julius Lumpkin Jr., 25, of the 5700 block of West Midway Park in Chicago, was found to be driving on a suspended license, according to the release. 

The passenger, Darryl A. Harrison, 31, of the 200 block of Marshall Avenue in Bellwood, was wanted on multiple warrants out of other counties. Police searched the vehicle and found a loaded semi-automatic handgun belonging to Harrison, along with drug paraphernalia, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Harrison has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a Class 4 felony; unlawful use or possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon, a Class 3 felony; deface of firearm ID markings, a Class 2 felony; possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card, a Class 3 felony; possession of ammunition, a Class 3 felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. He was taken to DuPage County Jail and was scheduled for bond court Thursday morning.

Lumpkin was charged with driving with a suspended license and multiple traffic offenses, according to the Sheriff's Office. He was released on bond.
