Contractor Skips Out with $3,000 for Job Never Done, Ex Skips Out With $2,275 Left Under the Nightstand

A resident of the 400 block of Atwater Avenue paid a down-payment of $3,000 in cash to a suspect allegedly employed by 4 Seasons Painting and Remodeling to have her kitchen remodeled. The contract, which was for $5,500, was signed last May but no work was ever performed on her kitchen. Numerous attempts to contact the suspect by phone and email have been unsuccessful, police said.

Theft

A resident of the 200 block of North West Avenue believes her ex-boyfriend stole $2,275 she had in an envelope under her nightstand between March 4 and 6. She asked him to leave on March 5, dropped him off at the train station on March 6 and does not know where he is. The report was filed on March 9.

A resident of the 500 block of South Rex Boulevard told police someone stole his $275 Kindle Fire between 6 a.m. March 4 and 1:26 a.m. March 6. He believes it was taken while he was riding the Metra train. The front pocket of his backpack was found to be unzipped. Someone re-registered the Kindle to another account, and police requested the user's account information.

A landscaping trailer belonging to Selvin Landscaping, 411 Normandy Drive, Addison, was found in an empty lot on the 1400 block of South Pulaski in Chicago. Taken from the trailer were two Bobcat walk-behind lawn mowers, one push mower and several miscellaneous landscaping tools. The theft occurred between 4 p.m. March 7 and 11 a.m. March 11.

A Samsung Galaxy Note II was delivered to a home on the 100 block of East Crestview at 3:22 p.m. March 12 via UPS, but the victim never received the package.

A woman in her early 20s attempted to pay for items using a counterfeit $100 bill at Bath and Body Works, 171 S. Route 83, at 4:08 p.m. March 12. While the clerk was contacting loss prevention, the suspect left the store. At about the same time, a clerk at Amy's Hallmark, 161 S. Route 83, said a female suspect successfully purchased items with a counterfeit $100 bill and received $89.05 in change.

The personal information of a resident of the 200 block of Pick Street was used to file a fraudulent income tax return for a refund. The identity theft report was filed at 5:35 p.m. March 13.

A wallet was stolen from a victim while she was in Elmhurst on March 13, and her credit card was used fraudulently at Target, 50 E. North Ave., Villa Park, the same day. Police said security cameras captured a license plate on the suspect's vehicle.

The personal information of a resident of the 500 block of South Hawthorne was used to file a fraudulent income tax return with the IRS. The report was made to Elmhurst police on March 14.

Someone gained access to the AT&T account of a resident on the 500 block of Fairfield and changed the account information. The suspect was able to upgrade four of the five phones on the victim's account. The report was filed at 12:26 p.m. March 14.

An LG Optimus L9 Smart Phone worth $400 was taken from an unlocked locker at the Elmhurst YMCA, 211 W. First St., between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m. March 14.
